European project RI-URBANS is started
The AERIS data and services hub is involved in the European RI-URBANS project. This project aims to develop synergies between the European air quality monitoring networks and the Research Infrastructures in the atmospheric domain ACTRIS, IAGOS and ICOS. It is funded by the European Commission under the Green Deal call for proposals of the Horizon 2020 program.
In May 2021, the European Commission published the evaluations and funding decisions of the applications under the Green Deal call “European Research Infrastructures – Capacities and services to meet the challenges of the European Green Deal”. The RI-URBANS project was among the projects to be funded.
RI-URBANS “Research Infrastructures Services Reinforcing Air Quality Monitoring Capacities in European Urban & Industrial Areas” aims to strengthen air quality monitoring capacities in European urban and industrial areas. Service tools (ST) will provide new information on spatio-temporal variability of air quality parameters, population exposure and interactions between air quality and health. The project builds on air quality (AQ) observations from advanced research in selected European pilot cities.
5 pilot tools implemented in 9 cities will be able to demonstrate the need to integrate complementary tools into air quality monitoring networks by performing data management according to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable) principles.
The 4-year project brings together 28 partners, including 3 French partners: CNRS and its third parties (IRD, SU, ENPC, ULILLE, CEA, UT3, UPEC), ITM and INERIS.
AERIS, as the data center of the European research infrastructures IAGOS, ACTRIS and ICOS, is a stakeholder in this project.
The project starts on October 5 with the kick-off meeting.
