The SIST network with the support of the CNRS Occitanie Est Delegation, CNRS-INSU and the ODATIS Ocean cluster are organizing a National Training Action (ANF) on Interoperable Sensor Data Management with the SOS protocol and the 52North software. This training will take place over 3 days, from 20 to 22 October 2021 in Fréjus (Var).

The training is intended for people involved in the management and use of observation data, whatever the environment (Earth system data: ocean, atmosphere, continental interfaces, internal earth, or socio-ecosystems data), CNRS staff or external. It is taught in English.

It offers to the trainees the possibility to better understand the SOS standard and to be able to deploy (install, configure) an SOS server with the 52°North software, coupled with time series from sensors, whether they are in the form of files (CSV, NetCDF) or relational databases. The training will allow to know how to insert data in the SOS server, to visualize them and to understand how the SOS protocol works. This standard and this software can allow to manage correctly and in an interoperable way the numerous time series that are collected in our units.

Program

Introduction to OGC standards: Observation and Measurements, Sensor Model Language, Sensor Observation Service 2.0 (SOS)
Installation, configuration and administration of the SOS 52°North software
Structure of the 52°North database and how to map its data to the model
Strategies for inserting data into the software: SOS queries, 52°North Importer for CSV, SensorThings API, other workflows
Installation and use of the graphical tool to visualize 52°North data: Helgoland viewer, sos4R library
Application development: understanding the REST API
